Our Story

Neither of us particularly like having our picture taken, which is obviously not ideal when trying to fill a page telling your story as a couple. In lieu of a serious engagement shoot or sappy photo timeline, enjoy a brief recounting of our love story through some uncannily similar childhood photos.

Two peas in a pod, or rather two kids in buckets. Same shenanigans, different ends of the country.

We bonded over our love of animals, big and small...

... and our love of yellow hats apparently. You can tell whose parents trusted who more.

Always getting into mischief, both of us. It obviously took us a while to learn not to get caught on camera committing shenanigans.

We also share a love of (and growing respect for each other's favourite) sports. Just not playing. And neither of which are pictured here.

Yet somehow, despite growing up on opposite ends of the country, the knight (or viking) in shining (plastic) armour managed to save the gypsy princess from her windowsill.

Orewa is a ten minute drive from Puhoi and has a few different accommodation options to choose from, both motels and holiday rentals. Albany is a further ten minutes drive and has some hotel options.

Directly opposite Orewa Beach, Waves Motel provides free unlimited WiFi. Most rooms offer a spa bath and a private patio or balcony. Guests enjoy a free on-site parking. All air-conditioned apartments feature a 42" 4K Smart TV with free NETFLIX and satellite channels. Each apartment is serviced daily, and has a kitchenette with a microwave. This is a great spot to have a picnic and has some short walks that start at the park. There is also a very flat beach that is safe for swimming at.

Wenderholm Regional Park

You can hire a kayak in Puhoi then paddle down to Wenderholm or from Wenderholm to Puhoi (with the incoming tide). Kayak rentals are offered in weekends during January.

Puhoi River Kayak Hire

This is a historic pub in Puhoi and offers limited accommodation.

This market is on every Saturday morning from 8am to 1pm in the centre of Matakana.

Matakana Village Farmers Market

This beach is minutes from plenty of shops and cafes, is very walkable and often has yellow flags out for swimming.

Orewa Beach

An indoor skiing and snowboarding facility just off the Northern Motorway, they offer discounted rates after 5pm.

Snowplanet

A park just outside of Silverdale with a Luge, Zipline, Bungee and more.

A variety of day tours are offered through this agency to explore the Matakana coast
